Maxine "Mickie" TerHaar passed away Sun, Jul 9, 2006, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Jan 22, 1929, and was the daughter of Arthur and Eva Curry. She worked for Pontiac Motors until 1969, before moving to Kalkaska. She opened the GoldenBird Drive-In Restaurant & Dairy with her sister, Barbara (Clifford) Golden, in 1970.
She met her soulmate, Gordon, at the GoldenBird and married him on Nov 17, 1970. They later opened The Place Party Store in Kalkaska and were proud sponsors of The Place Men's softball camps. Mick, Gordon, and daughter Debbie later moved to Les Cheneaux Islands in the Upper Peninsula where, after 34 years, she completed her high school education and graduated in the Class of 1983 which was held at Lake Superior State University.
She was an excellent artist and loved to paint pictures for her family and friends. She loved her family and friends who will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Dave) Swales of East Tawas and Rhonda (Dallas) Martin of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Corey (Jennifer) Swales and Christopher (Nikki) Swales of East Tawas; and Cindy (Bill) Scott; great granddaughters, Ashley and Madison, Jennifer (Wes) Fussell and Amanda Martin of Naples, FL; beloved sisters, Barbara (Clifford) Golden, Francis (Sonny) Thayer of Kalkaska, Ruthann Johnson of Manton; brother, Robert (Nina) Curry of Fort Collins, CO; and sister in law, Elaine Trice of Naples, FL.
She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and scooter.
She is preceded in death by her husband (Gordon), father (Arthur Sr), mother (Eva), and brother (Arthur Jr).
Arrangements were made by the Buresch Bennett Funeral Home. A memorial was held on Jul 15.
