Mr. Cotterman born on August 30, 1925 to the late Burt and Hazel Elzay Cotterman, graduated from Alger High School, Alger, OH. Following service as a WWII veteran in the Navy, he completed his BS degree in education at the Ohio State University and a MS in education from Northern Illinois University. After being commissioned a second Lieutenant in the US Army field artillery, he entered teaching in Painesville, OH. Soon after he became a purchasing agent with General Electric for 17 years, followed as a plant manager at Chicago Pump. He returned to teaching at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL, for 15 years before retiring to North Port.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Sally Cotterman of 59 years; son Bruce of Atlanta; daughter, Laurel Coon and husband Terry of St. Augustine; granddaughter, Amanda Cotterman; sisters and their husbands, Kay and Larry Dildine from Gaithersburg, MD, and Marilyn Jo and Robert McCaman from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cotterman was preceded in death by his brother, Kent Cotterman.
Mr. Cotterman was a member of the St. Augustine Shores United Methodist Church. Memorial service will be held at 11am on August 5, 2006 at the Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine. Burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Circleville, OH. Memorials in Max’s name may be made to the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
