Max R Campbell, 83, of Kalkaska, passed away Mar 16, 2002, at his home. He was born Jun 16, 1918 in Gladwin, the son of John and Leah (Young) Campbell. 

Max was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was married on Jan 12, 1945, to Esther M Tracey in Kalkaska. Max and Esther moved to Kalkaska in 1937 from Flint. He retired in 1980 from Michigan State Highway Department after 28 years of service. 

Max was a member of Kalkaska Church of Christ, Odd Fellows, past scout master of the Boy Scouts, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. 

Max is survive by his loving family including wife Ester of 57 years; children Duane M (Bonnie) Campbell of Kalkaska, Diana G (Charlie) Shafer of Kalkaska, Delwin L (Jean A) Campbell of Coleman, Delores J Nason of Kalkaska, Ron (Evelyn) Bishop of Kalkaska; brothers Ted (Evelyn) Campbell and Paul Campbell of Plainwell; sisters Grace Denoyer of Troy, OH, and Janet Dewar of South Boardman; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

His funeral service was Mar 19 at the Wolfe Funeral Home with the Rev Dan Johnson of Kalkaska Church of Christ officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska, and included a service under the auspices of VFW Post 8684. 

Memorials may be made in behalf of Max Campbell to Munson Hospice.
