Mary “Betty” McDonald, 72, of Burt Lake died Tue, Feb 25, 1992 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She was born December 25, 1919 at Burt Lake to Charles and Dora (McMichael) Waldron Sr.
She attended Alanson public schools, graduating from Alanson High school in 1937. She received her teaching certificate from Cheboygan Count Normal in 1940 and a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in 1962.
On December 21, 1943 she married Curtis McDonald at Burt Lake where the couple made their home. Mrs. McDonald taught public school in Topinabee and the Montgomery School in Afton. She retired from the Inland Lakes public school system in 1982.
She was a member of the Burt Lake Community Club, and a charter life member of the Tuscarora Township Historical Society for which she was serving as secretary. She had published and edited a book of pioneer stories titled “Turtles. Turkeys, and Wild Honey.”
Survivors include her husband Curtis; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Marilyn McDonald of Burt Lake, and George and Pam McDonald of Tampa, Fl; daughter and sons-in-law, Shirley and Skip Wixson of Burt Lake, three grandchildren; brothers, Bud, Chuck and Jack Waldron all of Burt Lake, Bill and Jim Waldron of Indian River and Dave Waldron of Anchorage Alaska; sister Shirley (Bill) Billings of Burt Lake, Helen Davis-Tull of Gurnee, IL, and Frances (John) Campbell of Punta Gorda, FL.
Funeral services will be held 4pm Fri at the Burt Lake Christian Church with the Rev. Errol J. Dietrich officiating. Burial will be in the Ohioville Cemetery in Tuscarora Township.
