Mary Catherine "Mae" Coppens, 72, of Charlevoix, died Jan 24, 1997, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
Funeral will be 11 am Tue, Jan 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix. The Rev. Thomas Neis will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Charlevoix.
Mrs. Coppens was born Apr 5, 1924, in St. James, Beaver Island, the daughter of James H and Catherine (Allers) Gallagher. she graduated from Beaver Island High School in 1942.
On Aug 14, 1943, she married John H "Jack" Coppens in Pontiac. They made their home in Charlevoix during the past 30 years.
Mrs. Coppens was a member of St. Mary's Church, and the American Legion Leslie T. Shapton Post No 226 Auxiliary. She was also a Rainbow Shoppe volunteer.
Survivors include her husband John H, of Charlevoix; one son John E Coppens and his wife, Jacklyne of Houston, TX; three daughters, Suzanne M Carlson of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Marianne Coppens of Charlevoix, and Cheryl C. Chism and her husband Randal of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Earl E Gallagher and his wife Mary of Traverse City, Edith H Burhans of Lawton, MI, Dorothy McCann and her husband, Giles of Jackson, MI and Norbert M Gallagher of Rochester, IN.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Charlevoix Area Hospital for the CAT scan. Envelopes for memorials are available at Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where visitation will be held from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 8 pm today, Jan 27. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. today at the funeral home.
