Mary "Kay" Ganfi, 71, of Kalkaska died Monday evening, Feb 17, 1992 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Mrs. Ganfi was raised in Detroit, where she took singing lessons. She enjoyed a professional career as a singer in night clubs, and she had her own radio show and sang German songs. She gave up her singing career to raise her family.
She enjoyed working for the Green Thumb, and delivered meals for senior citizens. She worked at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire as a volunteer, and she enjoyed reading.
She was selected Queen of Senior Haven in Kalkaska in for the year 1991-1992. She attended St. Anthony's Church in Mancelona and St. Mary's of the Woods Church in Kalkaska.
Mrs. Ganfi moved to Mancelona in 1968 from Detroit, and she had been a resident of Kalkaska for the past five years.
On Oct 15, 1920 in Detroit, she was born to William and Ethel (Eldridge) Alt.
She was married to Leslie Henry Watt, and he died in 1955. On Nov 18, 1967 in Detroit, she married Agatino "Joe" Ganfi, and he died in 1973.
She is survived by five sons, Arthur "Pat" and his wife Sally LaRose and Raymond "Mike" and his wife Shirley Gagnon, all of St. Clair Shoes, Richard LaRose and Martin Gagnon, both of Detroit, and Joseph G and his wife Linda Watt of Williamsburg; two daughters, Mary and her husband Howard Whiting of Vancouver, WA and Leslie and her husband Michael Belcher of Kalkaska; 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, William and his wife Fumie Alt of Japan and John Alt of Mancelona; three sisters, Jean Julian of Roseville, Joan and her husband Ted Wells of Davisburg, Jane and her husband Ronald Vanderlip of Mt. Clements.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Fri, Feb 21 at St. Mary's of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska with Rev. Patrick Barrett officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Mancelona.
A Rosary Service was held Thursday evening at the Paullin Funeral Home in Mancelona, where funeral arrangements were handled.
