Marvin Frank Crawford, 68, of Rapid City, passed away May 11, 2012 at their winter home in Frostproof, FL. Mr. Crawford was born on Jan 29, 1944 to Boyd and Virginia (Peters) Crawford in Highland Park.
Marvin spent his early years in East Jordan, and moved to Kalkaska in 5th grade. Upon graduation form Kalkaska High School, Marv joined the Army, station in Ft Campbell, KY. He was in Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 101st Airborne Division. He served in Vietnam, receiving the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. On Jun 3, 1967 he married Michaeline Seeley at St Mary's Catholic Church in Kalkaska. The would have shared 45 years together this June. To this union was born two daughters.
Marv was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Kalkaska, serving as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was a charter member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus and a 4th degree member. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post #8684 and charter member of the Purple Heart Association of Traverse City and alumni of the 101st Airborne. He retired from the Kalkaska County Road Commission after 23 years of service. Marv had a great love for family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed deer hunting, camping, 4x4 wheeling, and the many extended motorcycle trips through the states.
He is survived by his loving wife Michaeline, daughter, Mary (David) Moore and grandchildren Sarah and Evan Moore; daughter, Monica Crawford and grandchildren Reyann and Trace Homan; his father Boyd and sister Shirley. He was preceded in death by his mother, brothers Clare and Rex, and stepmother, Mabel.
The visitation was held at the Kalkaska Funeral Home, 152 S. Cedar St, Kalkaska on Tue, May 15 from 4 to 8pm ith rosary at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church at 11 am on Wed, May 16 with Reverend Norman Dickson, SJ officiating, with final visitation beginning at 10 am at the church. Burial will follow in Barker Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
