Martha C. Aemisegger, 82, passed away on Mon, Feb 20, 2006, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center's Long Term Care Unit.
Born on Sep 20, 1923 in Athens, OH, she was the only daughter of the late Frank and Helen Copeland.
A graduate of Ohio University, Martha married Jim Williams, who joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was killed shortly after enlisting during WWII.
On May 1, 1945, Martha married Lloyd Aemisegger of Alden. The Aemiseggers lived in Alden and then in Rapid City, until poor health necessitated Martha's move to KMHC about two years after Lloyd's death in 1993.
During her married life, Martha and her husband were very active in the Shriners organization, the Scottish Rite, and particularly in Alden. They were responsible for the creation of a baseball league that included a mens and two boys teams up until 1962. It was primarily under their dedication and leadership that the Alden ballpark - complete with bleachers, a concession stand and lights- was created. They were also founding members of the Three Lakes Association environmental group.
In addition to helping her husband with various projects and hobbies, Martha still found time to be on the Helena Township Library board and participate as an active member of the Alden Methodist Church. Her own hobbies included gardening, painting, and sewing. She was an active member of the Torch Lake Artisans Association. Many of her family's quilts have been displayed in the TAAG quilt shows, and an exhibit of her own paintings and stitchery work was held at the Kalkaska facility.
Martha is survived by a stepdaughter, Sue (Mrs. Clyde) Genter of Otto, NC; along with two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition, she is sadly missed by close friends Bob Logee and Dorothy Clore of Alden; Bill and Shirley Weiss; and their sons, Will and Taylor of Rapid City.
No memorial service is planned at this time.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home.
