Marta (Kipfmueller) Theisen
July 2, 1959-Oct 17, 2012
With hearts overcome with sadness, but our thoughts filled with only the fondest of memories, we announce the death of our wife, mother, sister, aunt, best friend and travel companion, Marta Kipfmueller Theisen on October 17, 2012 in her home in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan.
She was born in Pigeon ,Michigan on July 2, 1959 to Leo and Patricia Kipfmueller, the second of eight children.
Raised in Ann Arbor and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, she was a graduate of Central Michigan University in 1982.
While Marta loved to travel the world, she particularly enjoyed time in Florence, Italy. But even Florence took a second spot to time spent at Ham’s Hollow, the family compound in Fife Lake, Michigan.
Marta spent her raucous life tending to her immediate and extended family, pursuing her love of food and drink, visiting theaters, museums, gardening, and spending as much time on her porch where she was equally comfortable reading trashy mysteries and the New York Times, while catching up with friends and neighbors.
Through her thirty-one year marriage to her high school sweetheart and best friend, they rasied their daughters, (Caitlin, Amelia and Hayley) in a way that reflected her deep commitment to women’s social and political issues, as reflected through her work with the Legal Aid and Defenders Association.
