Margarete "Margie" J. Johnston, 65, lifelong resident of Kalkaska, passed away suddenly on Sep 4, 2012 at the family's cabin near Mackinaw. She was born on Jun 10, 1947, in Kalkaska, the daughter of the late Ivan and Rosemary (Reynolds) Miller.
Margie married Duane Johnston on Oct 22, 1966, in Kalkaska.
Margie was currently the Kalkaska Township Treasurer, an elected position she had held for 25 years. She had worked with Kalkaska Sports Boosters and Kalkaska Little League. Margie enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, and traveling. She was always available to help with any task at hand. Margie was a member of the Peoples Church.
Margie is survived by her children, Jodi J. (Bob) Boldra of Peoria, AZ, and Matthew P (Kristine) Johnston of Boston, MA; her grandson, Brody M Boldra of Phoenix, AZ; her siblings, Chris Miller, Jill (John) Kies, and Mona Carver all of Kalkaska, Mace (Judy) Miller of Spokane, WA.
Preceding Margie in death was her husband, Duane, in Dec 2011 and her sister, Jean LaPeer.
Visitation was Thu, Sep 6 from 5 to 8pm at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
The funeral service was held Fri at 11 am at the Peoples Church, with Dr. Steven Packer officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Peoples Church-Elevator Fund.
