Margaret Elizabeth Hagler, 74, passed away peacefully while holding the hand of her only son, James Hagler, on Nov 7, 2002, in Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, CA.
She was born on May 15, 1928, in Margie, MN, the daughter of Terrence William and Vernance Noggel Childs.
Margaret was a hardworking woman, and owned and operated numerous restaurants in her life, a profession she loved. One of her satisfactions was cooking her many specialties, baking pies, and seeing people enjoy the fruits of her labor.
Margaret moved to Kalkaska in 1967 for the second time, where she owned and operated the Family Restaurant, Variety Table Restaurant and Advanced Office Supply until she retired in 1993. She then moved to Beaumont, CA, and lived with her sister and best friend, Agnes Ashinhurt. Margaret was loved by her family and many people in Kalkaska.
Margaret was known by many names: Maggie, Marge, Mom, Grandmother, Little Lady, Little Fire Ball, and Boss. She is greatly missed.
She is survived by her son, James (Kathern) Hagler of Kalkaska; stepdaughter, Jean Smith of Woodville, TX; four grandchildren, Mechelle Haines of Gladwin, Kevin Hagler of Kalkaska, Jimmy Hagler of Lake City, and Nathasha Hagler of Kalkaska; sister, Agnes Ashinhurt of Beaumont, CA; brother, Lloyd Childs of Newaygo, and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Sleva, Martha Wolfe, Mary Cook, Phyllis Ausnamer and Ruth Garlanger; and brothers, William Childs, Lyman Childs, and Ernest (Smokey) Childs.
A memorial service will be held Sat, Nov 8, 2003, at 11 am in Family of God Christian Fellowship Church, 312 South Cedar, downtown Kalkaska. Jonathan Gray will be officiating. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Village of Kalkaska.
