Mamie E. Sherwood, 94, of Kalkaska, died Tue, Jan 5, 1993 at Munson Medical Center.
Mrs. Sherwood had been a resident of Kalkaska for the past 74 years, after moving from Newaygo County where she taught school. She also taught school in Kalkaska County, was a member of the Peoples Church and taught Sunday School. She was a past member of Women's Fellowship, Bethany Circle and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was born on Nov 22, 1898 in Chicago, IL, to Ellis E. and Arla C. (Holmes) Twing. On Jun 16, 1921, in Elk Rapids, she married Clayton M Sherwood, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Clayton C. (Carolyn) Sherwood of Tekonsha; two daughters, Mrs. Clesson (Kay) Ryckman of South Boardman and Mrs. Peter (Joyce) Keir of Alexandria, VA; nine grandchildren, David Keir, John Sherwood, Jeff Sherwood, Kurt Sherwood, Todd Sherwood, (Jane Sherwood) Fosberg, Craig Ryckman, Lynda (Ryckman) Raymond and Lori (Ryckman) Brown; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis and Lee; two sisters, Myrtle and Eunice; and twin siblings who died in infancy.
Funeral services were held Fri, Jan 8, 1993 at the Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cementery, Kalkaska. Memorial contributions may be given to the Peoples Church Memorial Fund.
