Madison Flake, 100, of Mancelona, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 3, 2008, surrounded by his children.
Madison was born on June 18, 1908, in Greenup County, Ky., to Michael William Flake and Effie Arthur.
Madison served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
On Feb. 28, 1945, he was united in marriage with Opal (Sparks) Short, who preceded him in death on July 14, 1990.
Surviving are three sons, Lonnie (Barbara) of Mancelona, Lester (Roxann) of Mancelona and Jim of Kalkaska; two daughters, Sandra (Stanley) Groner of Kalkaska and Lisa Abbey of Kalkaska; a stepdaughter, Pauline Hammond of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clyde, Roy, James and Lester; and his only sister, Thelma.
Graveside services with military honors will take place on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at 1 p.m., at the Albert Township Cemetery in Lewiston. Pastor Brent Bontrager will officiate.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
