Mabel May Crawford, 88, of Kalkaska, passed away on Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, LTC. She was born on Oct 27, 1922 in Kalkaska to the late Leonard and Hattie (Drake) Fessenden.
Mabel married Hubert A. Deater on Apr 6, 1941 in Kalkaska. Together they raised four children. Mable and Hubert were married for 25 years when he passed away on Jun 9, 1966. She married Boyd C. Crawford on Oct 1, 1972 in Kalkaska. Mabel worked for the Leader and Kalkaskian for many years and retired from the Kalkaska County Treasurer Office after 10 years of service. She was also a Kalkaska Village Trustee, the Kalkaska Welcome Wagon Lady, a March of Dimes volunteer, and a past member of the VFW Auxiliary. Mabel was a devoted Christian and a member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ since 1946 where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and playing cards. Mabel will be deeply missed by her loving family and her many friends.
She is survived by her husband Boyd of 38 years; her children, James L (Sharon) Deater of Rapid City, Janette K (Thomas) Brouwer of Kalkaska, Gary (Mary) Deater of Lebanon, N, Luanne C Ferguson (the late Terry Ferguson) East Lansing; and step children, Marvin (Michaeline) Crawford of Kalkaska, Shirley Crawford of Kalkaska; 12 grandchildren; 25 precious great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Mabel was preceded in death by her first husband Hubert; her son in law, Terry A. Ferguson; and her step sons, Clare Crawford and Rex Crawford.
Visitation for Mabel will be held on Fri, Dec 10, 2010 from 6 to 8 pm at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral services will be on Sat at 3 pm at the Kalkaska Church of Christ with Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
