Lydia Sewell, 80, of Gaylord, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002 in Mississippi. Mrs. Sewell was born on July 15, 1922 in Sparr, and had lived most of her life in Gaylord. She worked in the dietary department at Otsego Memorial Hospital from 1960 until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Sewell was a supporting member of the Community of Christ in Gaylord. She also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Gaylord, and the DAV Auxiliary. Mrs. Sewell enjoyed needle crafts, quilting, sewing and gardening, and also had bowled on a league with her husband for a number of years.
Mrs. Sewell is survived by her children: Linda Lou Shindler of Frederick, Md., Russel W. (Judy) of Independence, Mo., Richard (Judi) of Gulfport, Miss., and former son-in-law Melvin Green of Gaylord. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Helen Clark, Orma Clark, and Dorotny Clark, all of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, in 1998; her son Charles in 1970; her daughter Roberta Lee Green in 2001; and three brothers Melvin, James and Elwin.
Funeral services were held at Nelson Funeral Home in Tuesday, Dec. 17 with ministers Merle Jones and Matt Kinsinger officiating. Visitation at the funeral home was held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until the time of 6p.m. evening service. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ, the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Otsego Haus, through the Nelson Funeral Home.
