Lulu Elliott, 83, of Elk Rapids, died Wed evening at Meadowbrook Medical Facility, Bellaire, after a lengthy illness.
The daughter of George and Eliza (Palmer) Ayers, she was born in Benzie County on May 27, 1892. She was married to Forrest Elliott in 1922 at Traverse City.
The couple moved to Northport after their marriage and in 1924 moved to Elk Rapids, where they owned and operated a grocery store and had cottages and sold gasoline for more than 30 years. They lived in Traverse City for several years before moving back to Elk Rapids in 1968.
Mrs. Elliott was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids, and also belonged to the United Presbyterian Women’s Association and Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital Guild. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and crewel work.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; a daughter Verna; a sister, Esther; and three brothers, George, Minor, and Conley. Surviving are a son, Verne of Elk Rapids, a brother, Cloyd Ayers of Traverse city, a sister, Mrs. Adrian (Agnes) Van Boven of Kalamazoo; and two grandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled for 1pm Monday at Dockery-Wilheim-Smith Funeral Home in Elk Rapids with the Rev. Barney Roepcke officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Traverse city.
