Lowell W. Zentz, 83, of Kalkaska, passed away on Thu, May 15, 2008, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born Apr 27, 1925, in South Bend, IN, son of the late Lowell M and Belle (Bowers) Zentz, Sr.
Lowell married Shirlee Terrill on Jun 7, 1947 in Detroit and later moved to Kalkaska in 1976. Lowell was a veteran serving his country during WWII in the US Navy and was on ship off the beach at Normandy in Jun of 1944. He retired from the Teamsters Union in 1976, after 30 plus years of service. Lowell then went to work in the oilfield in Kalkaska for about 10 years where he was fondly referred to as "Pappy." He was a devoted father and proud Girl Scout Dad who hiked and canoed hundreds of miles with his daughter's Girl Scout Troop.
Lowell is survived by his loving daughters, Cynthia T (Lawrence) DuBey of Lake City and Kimberlee S (Marvin "Chief") Rolin of Kalkaska; sister, Evelyn Teeter of Eagle River, AK; grandchildren, Amy (Matthew) Zellen of Onsted, Heather DuBey of Boyne City, Shannon (Jennifer) DuBey of Grand Blanc, David Rolin of Kalkaska, and Amanda Rolin of Kalkaska; and his great grandchildren, Maddalynn, Genevieve, and Margurite Zellen all of Onsted.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother, and his wife.
Visitation was on Fri, May 16, 2008, at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was held Sat, May 17, 2008, at the funeral home with Reverend Robert Stark of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
