Lloyd VanAtta, 87, Ada, Died at 8:05pm at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was the son of John and Grace (Elzay) Van Atta. On November 10, 1951, he married Mary J. Francisco, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are Bradley, Ada; three daughters, Kay (John) Rettig, Ada, Christine Van Atta, Columbus, and Catherine (Steve) Decker, London; a brother, John, Lakeview; a sister, Marie Wolgamot; and six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and seven step great grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, David Rainey; four brothers, Willard, Harold, Paul, and Donald; and three sisters, Mildred Moe Robinson, Lola Mullholand, and Martha Jean Van Atta.
He graduated from Ada High School in 1945. He was known for his athletic abilities. He excelled in football and was a member of the 1942-45 teams that on 21 of their 22 games. He and his wife raised their family and built a life on a farm. He was well known for his gardening and shared his harvests with many. He served as a township trustee for 24 years. He was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Secretary for many years. His passion for life was reflected in the many stories he shared.
Funeral services will be at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Courtnie Morton officiating.
