Mrs. Lela Minear Puffer, 82, of South Boardman, died Nov 18, 1991, at Wilmar Convalescent Home in Utica following a long illness.
Mrs. Puffer was born in Middleville, on Mar 18, 1909, daughter to the late Charles and Ethel Campbell Baughman. On Dec 24, 1935, in Rushville, Neb, she was married to Dr. K Hart Puffer, who preceded her in death on Oct 27, 1982.
She was a graduate of Western Michigan University, and also held an M.A. from Michigan State University and a Life Teaching Certificate. Mrs. Puffer retired from teaching after 30 years of service in the Flint School District. She published numerous articles in state and national publications, and wrote two books as well as scripted an audio cassette series of tapes. She an early activist in conservation, and wrote extensively on Archaeology, Native Americans, and Michigan History. She was active in the Kalkaska Republican Party, and was a member of the International Platform Association, and several other state and national civic and service organizations. Dr. and Mrs. Puffer were named Kalkaska County Parents of the Year in 1978.
Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Puffer of Lansing, Karen Puffer of Lancaster, CA, and Mrs. David (Joan) Kotcher of Rochester Hills; one brother, Charles Baughman of Wayland; one sister, Florence Fiala of Middleville; and two grandchildren, David Kotcher, II and Ann Kotcher of Rochester Hills.
Memorial services were held Sat, Aug 15, 1992 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges, pastor of the Peoples Church, officiated.
