Lee W. Hoy, 70, passed away Tuesday, April, 8, 2003, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 6, 1933 in Traverse City, Lee was the son of Forest Lee and Esther Sara (Ayers) Hoy. On October 11, 1952, he married Karleen M. Fischer. Together they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Lee attended West Bay Covenant Church and worked for 8 years with the Traverse City Police Department. He also worked for State Farm/ Farm Bureau Insurance and managed a mobile RV park in Dade City, Fl., and owned a ceramics studio in Interlochen. For 12 years he supervised for purchasing for Olmstead Products, and following his retirement worked part-time for Sears.
Lee enjoyed wood working, and fishing, was very creative in writing poetry and especially enjoyed playing with his two-great grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, Kay, three children, Kathy (Sam) Johns of San Marcos, Calif., Vickie (Ross) Schuch of Traverse City and Michael Hoy of Williamsburg; daughter-in-law Gina Hoy of Interlochen; nine grandchildren, Katrina (Matthew) Devries of Owensboro, Ky., Eric (Amy) Johns of Fairbanks, Alaska, Derek Schuch of Traverse City, Amber (Kenneth) Daniels of Peru, Ind., David Schuch of Traverse City, Randal Lee Hoy, Cameron Hoy, Larissa Hoy and Branden Hoy of Interlochen; two great-grandsons, Aiden Johns of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Blake Daniels of Peru, Ind.; half brother Kenneth (Georgia) Taylor of Somerset, FL, half sister, Loretta Johnson of Wyoming; mother-in-law Helen Hein of Traverse City, and several nieces and nephews.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his son Randal Lee Hoy; half brothers, Francis “Pete” Taylor, George Taylor, Harold Taylor and Fred Taylor; and half-sister, Mildred Weber.
