Lawton, youngest son of Lester and Lucy Puffer, was born Mar 17, 1907, and died Jan 15, 1915, of Hemorrhage of the lungs resulting from a complication of diseases.
Though only a little child, he bore his suffering with heroic patience during the five weeks of his painful illness.
Lawton was a bright, manly little fellow, beautiful in his innocence, and winning his way into the hearts of all who knew him and hoped to keep him here with them; but the Father had other plans and took him home to be with the little brother there who waited for his coming.
He has left behind him a father, mother, brother, and sister, besides numerous relatives and friends, who today mourn the loss of the little life which came and dwelt among them for so short a time.
The funeral service was held at the ME Church at East Boardman, which was filled with neighbors and other sympathizers, some coming from a great distance. The Rev. S.A.P. Reakes preached from the words, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” The speaker showed that the experiences of life are not hap hazard, but are not only permitted but sometimes sent by God with loving purpose through often veiled by the cloak of sorrow that presses hard upon the individual. He pleaded for the acknowledgement in the life that the Judge of all the earth cannot but do right and that “where reason fails there faith prevails.”
The body was laid to rest in the family lot in Lodi. The sympathy of the whole neighborhood goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Lester Puffer in their great loss.
