Laura "Fern" Steele, 91, died on Sep 26, 2005, in Midland.
Her parents were James G. Strahan and Betsy (Crocker) Strahan.
Fern was born in Fife Lake on Sep 23, 1914. She graduated from the Fife Lake High School in 1932.
She married Earl Francis Hackman of Kingsley on Jun 10, 1944. They moved to Detroit, where she worked for the Michigan Unemployment Compensation Commission until the birth of their son, Richard, in 1950. She was widowed in 1976.
Fern worked as the secretary for the St. Matthew's United Methodist Church and also the Redford United Methodist Church in Detroit until her marriage to Kenneth L Steele of Fife Lake on Jul 21, 1983. She spent the remaining years of her life in Fife Lake and Lecanto, FL. She had been a resident of Brittany Manor Nursing Home in Midland since Nov 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, who died on Oct 5, 2004; her parents, her first husband; sister and brother and sister in law, William (Gladys) Strahan.
She leaves to mourn her death, her son Richard (Julie) Hackman; stepchildren, Gordon (Janice) Steele, Sandra (Serge) Mann, Carol (Wayne) Bancroft; granddaughters, Kathryn and Jennifer Hackman; step grandchildren, David (Debbie) Gaultier, Tina De Vita, Denise (Mike) Palmer, Barbette (Jeff) Lane, Todd (Aspen) Steele, Melissa (Pete) Hembrough, Cynthia (Steve) Gibler, Mark (Brenda) Bancroft, Rebecca "Bancroft" Strahan, and Gregory Bancroft. She also had 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild at the time of her death.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the home of Sandy and serge Mann of Fife Lake on Sun, Oct 9, at 2pm.
