Larry W. Irish, 72, of Kalkaska, passed away on Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at Munson Medical Center. He was born on Jan 31, 1939 in Almont to the late Harrison and Jean (Youngs) Irish.
Larry was a resident of Kalkaska since moving here from Imlay City in 1970. He retired from GTE Telephone after 30 years of service as a telephone technician. Larry was a corrections officer with the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department and retired from there in 2001.
He was also a former volunteer fireman for the Garfield Township Fire Department. Larry was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He loved his John Deere Tractor and spending time with his grandchildren.
Larry enjoyed bird watching and playing with his three dogs. His great sense of humor and loving way will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years, Sherrie; his loving children, Tammy Vandergriff of Rapid City, Thomas Irish of Traverse City, and Tina (Grant) Jones of IN; his dear step children, David (Gina) Adams of Grawn, Kimberly (Jason) Goodale of Traverse City, and Misty (Nathan) Wendel of Fife Lake; his 11 cherished grandchildren; and two and a half precious great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gayle M. Irish; two sisters, and a brother.
Visitation for Larry was held on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 from 5-8 pm at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. The funeral service took place Sun at 4 pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Moser officiating. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Garfield Township Cemetery.
