Julius L (Jake) Cavitch, 77, of Kalkaska, died Fri, Nov 28, 1997, at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Cavitch had resided in Kalkaska since 1953. He was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1982.
He served with the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a life member of Land O'Lakes VFW Post 8684 and Kalkaska American Legion Post 480, the East Bay Lodge 264 F & AM, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was affiliated with The Peoples Church.
Born in Traverse City on Sep 25, 1920, he was the son of Andrew and Louise Hoch Cavitch. On Mar 15, 1945, in Traverse City, he was united in marriage with Betty Wolff who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Vernon (Carol) Cavitch of Gaylord; daughters Cathy Mathis and Judy (Roger) Nerli, both of Kentwood; brother Lawrence Cavitch of Traverse City; sister Irene Haven of Traverse City; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son in law Don Mathis, granddaughter Brenda Mathis; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
A Masonic candlelight service was held Monday at the funeral home. Military graveside services were conducted under the auspices of the VFW and American Legion.
