Joyce Durand, age 71, died Sunday, January 25, 1998 at Crestmont Health Care Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 pm Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fenton, Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-9 pm Monday and Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Vigil service at 7:30 pm Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the St. John School Foundation.
Mrs. Durand was born January 26, 1926, the daughter of Roland and Angeline (Kozlowski) Sewell. She married Gerald Durand on June 30, 1945; he preceded her in death in 1977. She was an avid homemaker and enjoyed knitting, bingo and baking. Apple pies and fudge were her specialty. Joyce graduated from Fenton High School in 1943 and was a majorette. She was a member of the St. John Society, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fenton.
Surviving are 5 children: Cathy Durand of O’Fallon, MO, Debbie and husband Jerry Chene of Linden, Jim and wife Lynne Durand of Fenton, Shelly and husband Duff Hay of Sandwich, IL, John and wife Kathleen Durand of Fenton; 10 grandchildren, which she was very proud of; Mark and wife Lori Koester, Angi and husband Jason Spees, Robert Durand, Michele Durand, Chad Hay, Ben Hay, Katie Hay, Sarah Durand, Johnny Durand and Emily Durand; brother Wayne and wife Nancy Sewell of Linden; sister Gayle and husband Phil French of Traverse City; many nieces , nephews and friends. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Vivian Gregg and Leola Sylvester.
