Joyce L. VanDenHout, 70, of Traverse City, died Thu, Mar 18, 1999, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City.
Joyce was bornin Kalkaska County on Mar 23, 1928, the daughter of Elgie VanDenHout and Ila VanDenHout Tanner.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a telephone operator in Traverse City and Flint. She then moved to Buffalo, NY, where she worked as a secretary for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, volunteering her time to place many Ukrainian immigrants in homes and jobs. Following her return to Traverse City, she was employed by R.L. Polk. She enjoyed genealogy, reading, gardening, and antiquing.
Surviving are brothers Gordon (Janet) VanDenHout of Sparta and Jim (Pat) VanDenHout of Manawa, WI; sisters Jeanette Vipond of Kalkaska and Joan Bartell of Traverse City; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends in Traverse City, Flint, and Buffalo, NY.
Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Sat, Mar 27 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Rev. Paul Karges will officiate. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 1 pm until time of services.
