Joyce E. Kniss, 90, of Bellaire, passed away Thu, Jan 21, 2010, at Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
She was born Jul 5, 1919, in L'Anse the daughter of the late Hubert and Ruby (Riley) Darke.
Joyce married Lyle Kniss on Sep 2, 1939 in Ohio. Joyce and Lyle were residents of Bellaire since 1952.
Joyce retired from the US Postal Service (Traverse City office) in 1982. She enjoyed traveling in northern Michigan, crafts, sewing, and bowling. Joyce also enjoyed people. Whatever she did, she had a "good time doing it."
Surviving Joyce is her daughter, JoAnn Church of Williamsburg; her grandchildren, Julie (Randy) Hudson of Lisle, IL, Chari (Robert) Forrest of Chantilly, VA, and Tamara (Brian) Mannes of Byron Center; seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Don (Nova) Darke of Kalkaska.
Preceding Joyce in death was her husband, Lyle; son Larry; daughter, Cheryl Nobel; great granddaughter, Jessica Joyce Hudson; brothers, Stephen and William Darke, and sistes, Myra Harris, Sylvia Sachteleben, Lois Larabee, and Dorothy Howell.
The funeral services were Sun, Jan 24 at 3 pm at the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
Pastor Bruce Standfest of the Open Doors Ministry officiated the proceedings.
Burial will be at Oliver Township Cemetery in the spring, when weather permits.
