Westover, Joyce Darlene

In Memory of
Joyce Darlene (Moore) Westover

BIRTH: 27 Jul 1930 Amherst, Buffalo, Nebraska

DEATH: 07 Dec 2013 Lewiston, Trinity, California

Joyce D. Westover, 83, of Lewiston, passed away December 7, 2013.

She was born Jul 25, 1930 in Amherst, Nebraska according to the records, but there was a question about the date of her birth as she said family history showed it was Jul 27. So it was always celebrated on Jul 27. She grew up in Neb then moved to MI in her youth. It was there that she met and married her sweetheart, Lawrence Westover, on February 14, 1948. They spent the first five years in MI, then moved the family to Orange County, CA, in 1953. There she devoted her time to raising her family, being the best mom.

Looking back, her daughters are all incredibly grateful they had a mom that “loved her family. She was always so supportive and just wanted us to be happy; she was always there when I needed her. She sometimes knew what I needed even though I didn’t. She was a strong woman. She was intuitive and said what she thought.”

After their kids moved out on their own, Larry and Joy moved to Lewiston in 1977. During those years, she loved being the best Grandma around, having sleepovers, baking chocolate chip cookies with the Lewiston grandkids, and always looked forward to the out-of-town grandkids coming for visits. But the icing on the cake was becoming a great grandma. She was very proud to share the fact that she had 12 great grandchildren and loved them all dearly. She was sad to miss holding the newest one, Victoria Joy, born November 4, 2013, in Colorado. She was close with each of them, and they absolutely adored their precious time with great grandma Joy. Taylor, Kylee, Owen, Madison, Shawn, and Brynn were lucky to live nearby and have a lifetime of memories doing puzzles, playing games, reading stories, and watching Disney Channel with this wonderful lady.

Live was a full circle for our mom, the most important thing was her love for her family.

When our mom and dad married 66 years ago on Valentine’s Day, they chose the best day to show their love for each other and what their dream was for their family. Our hope is to carry this on in the years to come within our families.

Please honor Joyce by hugging someone special in your life this Valentine’s Day.

She is now with her sweetheart again. Preceded in death by her husband Lawrence on August 1, 2003. Also, her sister, Marilyn, and brother, Jessie.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Linda and Paul Scribner of Lewiston, Cheryl and Ed Perkins, of Rancho Cordova, Lori and Stan Stokke of Larkspur, CO; son, Larry C. Westover of Arcata; grandchildren and spouses, Amy Scribner and Jeff Cody, Wes and Anne Marie Scribner, Adam and Bridget Scribner, Andrew and Petra Perkins, Joy Perkins (Hall), Christy Perkins (Sanchez), Laura Perkins, Lisa Perkins, Nicole and Neil Ramirez; and great grandchildren Taylor Wellock, Kylee, Owen, and Madison Scribner, Shawn and  Brynn Scribner, Julia Perkins, Anthony Labouyer, Adriana and Alejandro Sanchez, Randy James and Victoria Joy Ramirez.

She is also survived by her sister and brother in law Sue and Chuck Gumberg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
