Early in the evening Sep 20, 2000, Joyce Ingersoll left his world and touched the face of God. She was reunited with her husband, who has been waiting since last October. Her daughters and son in law were with her.
Born Oct 15 to Freida (Waltz) and Clarence DeWyer, she grew up in Detroit. At the age of 2, she grew to love the arts. Her study of ballet, classical dance, opera and piano spanned a period of over 15 years. During those years she earned a degree in nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
She married Homer Ingersoll in Lake City and they shared almost 51 years together. They raised five children.
During her younger years her nursing career took her to various major hospitals where she utilized her skills as head nurse. Joyce also came to love caring for the elderly and prior to retirement chose her home to care for many.
She was truly a solider for Jesus. Her life will long be remembered by many as a prayer warrior and the King's Kid. Her love of the Lord took her on missionary work in Florida. She had a strong voice and spoke to the forgotten, down trodden and less fortunate. From a jail cell to her kitchen or living room, all she met knew her as a witness for Jesus. It was common in the neighborhood for Aunt Joyce and Uncle Diggy to have the kids over for pizza and teach them about Jesus, and how to accept him into their life and be saved. Within her Bible is a legacy of love and wisdom by markings of scripture. Page after page can be found underlined with pen and names written nearby for whom that particular scripture reading is for. This is the most precious gift mom leaves her children.
As a mother life was fun. Summers spent at the beach and cabin found laughter all around us. Mom had a Lucy type personality that made things memorable. Many teens would find their way to out door, when they ran way from home. They could talk to her and she understood. She was never judgmental, only loving, and our door was always open. She was instrumental in bring special education to Kalkaska Public Schools in the 1960s.
She leaves behind to carry on her legacy, her children, Fred (Rose) Buckley, Tina (Ralph) of Kalkaska, Kathy (Jay) and Freida (Jim) of Fife Lake, and Tim of Kingsley; brother Howard Wood of Cross Village; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, besides her husband Homer, were brother Bobby Wood and her parents.
The family was served by Dave and Vickie Wolfe at Wolfe Funeral Home.
Services were Sep 25 with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating.
Final resting place is Ingersoll Cemetery.
