Joyce A. Smith, 67, of Kalkaska passed away on Jul 10, 2004, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey with her children by her side.
Joyce was born on Mar 7, 1937, in Gaylord, the daughter of Harold and Eleanor (Harris) Cool.
She married John L Smith on Apr 15, 1962, in Alpena and he preceded her in death in Sep 1972. Joyce was a very caring person and had volunteered at the Kalkaska Senior Citizen Center. She like to bake, had a "green thumb" in her garden, and with her house plants, enjoyed mushroom picking, going out to dinner, and just being outdoors. She especially loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with them.
Surviving are her children, Yvonne (Edward) Hammond of MO, Gary (Lorna) Smith of Thayer, MO, John K Smith of Kalkaska, Michael E (Ruth) Smith of Cherokee Village, AR, James L Smith of Kalkaska, Karen (Loren Arndt) Howell of Bay City, and Theresa (Kurt Bell) Root of Kalkaska; her grandchildren, Milisa (Glen) Bergeron, April (Bill) Puryear, Ray (Faith) Holt, Kerry Smith, Gary L Smith, John J Smith, Allison Smith, Carolyn Smith, Misty Smith, Jennifer Buckler, Tiffany Root, Katelyn Bell, and many great grandchildren; her siblings, Roy (Bonnie) Cool, Katherine Kenneda, Arbutus Stevens, Norman (Brenda) Cool and Daniel (Danette) Cool.
Visitation was Jul 13 at Wolfe Funeral Home with Pastor Claud Rowling officiating.
