Joseph J. Heystek, age 78, of Montrose, died Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. A memorial service will be held 11 am Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at the Montrose United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Ferrigan officiating. Friends may call at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose on Sunday and Monday from 1-8pm. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the church or the charity of ones choice.
Joe was born in Flint, MI on Jun 26, 1930 to the late Joseph and Shirley (Stoddard) Heystek. He has lived in the Flushing/Montrose area for many years. Joe married Joann Dilsworth in Angola, IN in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1950. Joe owned and operated Heystek Contracting and just recently celebrated 50 years of being in business. Joe belonged to the Dalton Airport Association and the EAA Chapter 77. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sport flying and working on antique cars. He was an avid reader and a Detroit Tigers fan.
Surviving are: wife, Joann; children, John (special friend Nancy), Joe (Brenda), Jayne (Kirk) Bachman, Bill, Chris (Fran); grandchildren, John (Kathy), Robyn (Brian), Lauren (Martin), Joe (Jeannie), Jason, Keith, Ryan, Jonathan, Ronnie, Lindsey, Richard, Anthony (Mindy); great grandchildren, Ella, Josie, Smiling Jack, Klara, Roman; sisters, Penny (Ed) Menz of Battle Creek, Ellen Wheaton of Traverse City; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Cousin Art and Pool Time. Joe was also preceded in death by his sisters Betty Thompson and Loujane Beynon.
