TRAVERSE CITY — Joseph Franklin Hanna, 93, of Traverse City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at his home in Union Township.
Born April 20, 1918, in Acme, he was the son of the late Sidney Arthur and Opal Cora (Stafford) Hanna. Joe grew up and lived for 91 years in the Upper Boardman River Valley, where he loved his land and knew every inch. He was a proud Christian and an active member of Victory Baptist Church in South Boardman. He was beloved by his entire family and his church family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife of 34 years, Flangie (Piver); daughters, Opal Zimmer, of Puerto Rico, Pam Ingersoll, of Fife Lake, Debbie Minnick, of Welford, S.C.; sons, George, Gary, Martin, Jeffrey, Carl, all of Traverse City, and Paul, of Greenville, S.C.; step-children, Rachel Parker, of Valdosta, Ga., and Benjamin Hickaby, of Travelers Rest, S.C.; a brother, Tom Hanna, of Traverse City; 24 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, of 33 years, Amelita (Phillips); son, Joseph Hanna; and his parents.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 25, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at Victory Baptist Church, South Boardman. Pastor William McQueen will officiate. Burial will be in Acme Township Cemetery following the service.
