Joseph Elburn “Uncle Burn” Morgan, 101, of Ruby, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Tomlinson AFC Home, Jeddo.
He was born December 7, 1903 in Brown City, the son of Joseph A. and Emma Clark Morgan.
His marriage to Ruby Ollis was in June of 1931 in Port Huron. Ruby died March 16, 1933. His marriage to Jennie Ollis was in June of 1934 in Detroit. Jennie died July 25, 1997.
He spent the later 5 years of his life living with Dale and Karin Tomlinson’s family at their adult foster care home.
“Uncle Burn” was a lifelong area resident and had worked for the St. Clair County Road Commission in Avoca from April 1953 until his retirement in 1968. He earlier had several jobs in manufacturing, farming and his plumbing business.
He was life member of the Yale and Brockway Masonic Lodge #316 F. & A.M.
Surviving are 2 daughters and a son in law, Ilene Hopps of Brunswick, Ohio, and a daughter and son in law, Joyce and Grover Gates of Ruby; five grandchildren, Paulette Gibbons, Tracy Hopps Weber, Erin Hops Staub, Sheila Shultz, Grover C. Gates; 14 great-grandchildren, 11 great-grat-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Alvin, Albert, Daniel, and John and sisters Florence Lawrence, Eva Wixon, Olive Gerds, Agnes Morgan and Nevabelle Mason, granddaughter Sonja Behrens (July 2005) and a son in law Sid Hopps (1995).
His family honors the memory of Joseph and invite you to visit and share at 10 a.m. today at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Avoca, and attend funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Lyle Reynolds, pastor of Hillside Wesleyan Church, Port Huron, will officiate. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery, Greenwood Township.
