Joseph E. Marek, 81, a resident of Kalkaska for the past nine years, died Sat, Sep 9, 2000, at his home.
Before moving to Kalkaska, Mr. Marek had resided in Bellaire where he served as Antrim County undersheriff, and worked at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility prior to his retirement. He had formerly worked for the Bellwood, IL, police and fire departments. An Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed his family, and had been a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Club and for the Meals on Wheels program.
He was born in Bellwood, IL, on Mar 19, 1919, the son of Frank and Helen Marek. He married Mary Anne Zear in Bellwood in Jun 8, 1940.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne; sons Joseph "Sonny" (Sharon) Marek of Kalkaska, James (Kathleen) Marek of Petoskey, Stephen (Suzzette) Marek of Hickory, NC; brother Eugene Marek of Bellwood, IL; sisters Adaline Locasio of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Marie Boeger of Bowling Brook, IL; brother in law, William Zear of Bellaire; and grandsons James, Daniel, and Garrett Marek.
