Joe Stock (age 62) of Columbiaville, MI passed away peacefully Aug 16, 2021 at the family farm in Elba Township where he was raised, surrounded by loving family. Born in Lapeer, MI the eight child of Leo and Marie (Krakker) Stock, Joe dedicated his life to serving his family and the community.
Attending Shaft School ( a one-room schoolhouse), Bishop Kelley Catholic and a graduate of Lapeer West High school, Joe received his Bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Arizona and then volunteered with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic. He returned home to marry Susan (Powers) Stock on Dec 24, 1990 and together they raised three sons. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandpa.
Joe worked for New Paths in Flint, the Lapeer County Soil and Water Conservation District, and then for Lapeer County where he recently retired as Building and Grounds Supervisor. Joe was a naturalist, conservationist and civic-minded individual who was involved in wide-ranging community organizations from the Lapeer County Historic Courthouse, the Flint River Watershed Coalition, Lapeer Count Parks, Ducks Unlimited, the Polly Ann Trail, Elba Township Board of Trustees and the Sutherland Nature Preserve, to name a few. He was an avid birder and a die-hard Detroit Tiger baseball fan. Joe was also a member of the Bryant Club in Glennie, MI where many fond memories remain.
Along with the love of his life, Sue, he is survived by sons Michael (Christi) Bandur, Joshua (Missy) Bandur and Kevin Bandur (fiancée, Madisson Witnauer) and by his grandchildren Nathan, Isaac, Leo, and Josephine, and his devoted canine, Mikka. He is also survived by his ten siblings, Marilyn Burch, David (Tawnya) Stock, Carolyn (Richard) Boellner, Eileen (Steve) Irish, Jim Stock, Bill Stock, Dan (Sally) Stock, Jack (Nancy) Stock, Ann (Dennis) Dupre, and Matt (Sherry) Stock as well as sister in law, Kim (Ken) Heathcock, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, and family and friends too numerous to list. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father in law, Garry Powers, mother in law, Loretta (Sake) Powers, brother in law, Tom Burch, and his nephew Patrick Stock.
In Joe there was never a better friend or family man. He battled cancer valiantly. He gave life his all, he gave it passionately.
