Jon Edward Cooley, 70 of Williamsburg, passed away on Mon, Jan 13, 2020 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Jon was born on Feb 4, 1949 to Lois (May) and Bye Cooley of Traverse City. He grew up in this area that he loved so much and was a graduate of Traverse City High School in 1967.
He married the love of his life and soul mate, Mary (Staffan) Cooley on Dec 19, 1986 and together they raised six children.
He was the proud owner of Blue Sky Enterprises and was a knowledgeable fisherman who enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, kids, and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and a die-hard fan of the Detroit Tigers. He was also an amazing wordsmith with a true gift of storytelling and a wonderful ability to share and entertain with the best stories. His extraordinary memory for detail and his sense of humor always held our attention...even if most of us had heard them recited for years and years.
Jon was a peacemaker as a child and it served him well as a husband and father to such a very large family and for all who loved him. He devoted his entire life to his wife an dchildren and continues to influence their lives. His huge heart and gregarious laughter will be missed and remembered forever.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Bye Cooley; and his sister, Haroldee.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Cooley; his brother, Sean (Tracy) Cooley of Traverse City; his sister, Dale (Larry) Murton of Bellaire; and Janice (Hansen) Cooley, the mother of his sons, Jonathon (Catherine) Cooley and Jamison Cooley of Traverse City. Jon is also survived by Amy Staffan-Hess of Traverse City, Jill (Steve) John of Kingsley, Rachel (Mike) Greilick of Traverse City, Richard (Stephanie) Bedell of San Antonio, TX; and many nieces and nephews who he adored.
He was lovingly known as Beba (or Beebs) by his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren who have never questioned his true devotion to family.
The family has been wonderfully served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and a private, family gathering has taken place. An outdoor Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
