John M. Schlaud, age 63, of Gaines passed away on May 1, 2021 in Grand Blanc with his loving wife Mikki by his side. John was born on Apr 18, 1959 at St. Joseph hospital to parents John and Dorothy Schlaud. He spent many wonderful years growing up in the Grand Blanc area and graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1976. After high school John took a job wit Gneral Motors and gave 30 years of service at different factories and a variety of assignments including parts maker, line worker, and “tugger”. John is known by his friends and faily as “The Michigan Man” and was rarely seen without some kind of Maize and Blue clothing or memorabilia. In his free time when he wasn’t watching his wolverines on the football field, he could be found on the golf course. John cherished his time on the course and countless round with his lifelong golf partner Brad. John loved spending time outside, whether he was golfing, fishing, spending time with family on Lake Huron in Oscoda, and in retirement horseback riding alongside his wife and grandkids. When John wasn’t outdoors he could easily be found in the woodshop crafting numerous woodworking projects, many of which displayed his loving children and grandchildren. John was always proud of his family’s accomplishments and never shy to share them with others.
John is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Mikki of Gaines, his brother Richard (Jo) Schlaud and Bob (Corey) Schlaud, sisters, Ann, Mary Jo, Mary Jane (Rick), and Diane. John also leaves behind his three sons, Benjamin “BJ” (Tonia) Schlaud, John William (Trisha) Schlaud, and Tony (Jodie) Schlaud. When John married Mikki in 2005 they jokingly became the Brady Bunch and John earned three daughters, Gwynne Montgomery, Jillian (Michael) Macey, and Jacque Erwin. John also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will never forget the gentle touch of the bear paw.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and loving care of John.
