John Jay Thomas, age 97, passed away peacefully Mar 2, 2013 in Castro Valley, CA, in the company of his family.
John attended Pontiac High School and graduated from the University of Michigan. A Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II, he was Principal Planner of the Alameda county Planning Department.
John was predeceased by his wives, Evalyn Forshar Thomas of Michigan and Joan Seavey Thomas of Oregon.
John is survived by his children: George Thomas of Palm Springs, CA, Mary Thomas Weiss of Oakland, CA and Suzanne Thomas Lawlor of Oakland, CA and by his sister, Ellen Reynnells of Pontiac, MI.
John hiked many major mountains around the world and read thousands of books. He was a unique man and will be missed by his family and friends.
