Amid scenes of his boyhood, J. Gordon Lake, of Detroit, aged 28 years, and married lost his life in Lacey Lake, about six miles north of Inverary, on Mon afternoon. Although an excellent swimmer, he was drowned when he attempted to recover a boat that had drifted out from shore. It is believed that he was overcome with a weak spell, as he suddenly disappeared in the water. Search is being made for the body but up till noon today the body had not been recovered. Mr. Lake came here a week ago last Sat on his vacation. He was very fond of fishing and during his stay had been out several times. On Mon morning, according to information given The Whig-Standard Mr. Lake had been out fishing with William Arthur, William Denee, and his uncle B.A. Lake, all of Inverary. In the afternoon Gordon Lake decided that he would do some casting, but when he went to the shore of Lacey Lake to get his punt, he found that it had drifted out a short distance. He cast at the boat in an effort to stop the boat and pull it back to shore. He did not succeed, however, and then he decided to swim out and bring the boat in to shore. While he was endeavoring to reach the boat he went down. His companions believed he had dived, but when he did not come up again they gave an alarm. Just as soon as the alarm was given, a search was made for the body. When it became dark the search was continued with the aid of flash lights.
