John E. Pierce, 81, a resident of Kalkaska since 1973, died Feb 7, 1998, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Pierce resided in Dearborn prior to moving to Kalkaska. He had worked as a deputy sheriff in Drew County, Ark, and as a foreman for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad. Until his retirement in 1978, he worked in the steel industry in Plymouth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing the guitar.
Born in Collins, Ark on Nov 6, 1916, he was the son of Adis and Cora Adair Pierce. On Apr 3, 1968, in Inkster, he married Juanita Bohanon who survives.
Also surviving are: son John L Pierce of Alabama; daughter Patsy Durham of Arkansas; stepson Edward Bohanon of Ann Arbor; stepdaughter LaWanda Syroid of Canton; brother Zan Pierce of Monticello, Ark; sisters Jewell Cooper of Monticello, Ark, and Edna Burns of Portland, Ark; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A twin brother, Henry, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thu, Feb 12, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. William Kuiper, pastor of the Evergreen Bible Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lodi Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday.
