John C Alt, 74, of Mancelona, died Jan 1, 1999, at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City.
John was born Aug 16, 1924, in Detroit, the son of William and Ethel (Eldridge) Alt. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had worked at the Strohs Brewery in Detroit, Goodhousekeeping in Detroit, and Gulf & Western in Mancelona, now known as Dura. John enjoyed writing and music. He loved to play piano and sing. He also had played at the Mancelona Senior Center. John was a cat lover and would take in many ways.
John is survived by brother William Alt of Clarkston; sisters Joan (Edwin "Ted") Wells of Clarkston, Jena Julian of Roseville, and Jane (Ronald) Vanderlip of Mount Clemens; and several nieces and nephews, including Joe Watt of Williamsburg and Leslie Belcher of Kalkaska. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Kay Ganfi on Feb 17, 1992.
Funeral services were Jan 4 at St Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona; Father R. Dale Magoon officiated. Interment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Mancelona.
Memorials may be given to Antrim County Pet and Animal Watch (AC PAW) or the American Heart Association.
