John Barth Cook, 79, of Fife Lake, died Sat, Oct 14, 2006, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. Born on Apr 5, 1927, in LaPorte, IN, he was the son of the late Warren F and Carol (Meiks) Cook.
John served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from MSU with a BA. He was an agent for NYLIC for 25 years and CEO of Efficiency Productions in Okemos for 12 years. He was a member and past president of the City Club of Lansing. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Lansing and a member of the Kiwanis International for 35 years. Upon moving to Fife Lake in 1987, John joined St. Aloysius Church, served on the Kalkaska Board of Education for nine years, was a founding member of the Board of Directors of KAIR, a member and chair of Kalkaska EDC, and a life member of the VFW and American Legion.
John loved the outdoors. He raised AKC champion field and show dogs and loved to hunt and fish. John retired to a log home in the northern woods of Garfield Township, he and his family built. He then became a guide for fly fisherman and upland bird hunters.
Surviving John is his wife, Marcia (Fors), whom he married in 1979; his children, all of whom attended East Lansing High School; Carol (Bill) Cook Jernberg of Wolfeboro, NH, Sandra Cook Griffin of St Augustine, FL, John Brian Cook of St Johns, MI, Jill Milsom of Denver, CO, Jane (Ryan) Milsom Bell of Royal Oak, MI; and his five grandchildren, Ashley, Kelly, and TJ Griffin, and Riley and Sophia Bell.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Sat, Oct 21 at 11 am at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska with Reverend Al Gietzen officiating.
