Jerome “Jerry” D. Carey, age 72 of Warba, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at his home.
He was born Oct. 4, 1933 at Grand Rapids to David and Josephine Lichtenberg Carey.
He grew up and attended school in Grand Rapids.
Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army from Aug. 25, 1954 until Aug. 1, 1956.
On Nov. 30, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna Havens at Grand Rapids.
Jerry worked as an electrician for U.S. Steel for many years.
He was a longtime member and former fire chief for the Warba Volunteer Fire Department. He also
was an active member of the American Legion Post 432 and food shelf volunteer for 22 years, both
of Warba. Jerry was also past mayor and council member for several years. He enjoyed being
outdoors, hunting and fishing with family and friends, including yearly fly-in fishing trips to Canada.
He enjoyed sports, trapping and spending time with grandchildren and his great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Anthon.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Debra (Dan) Carlson of Forest Lake, Iowa, Dawn
(Jim) Tepley of Browerville; two sons, David “Toby” and Derek (Nancy) Carey of Warba; two
sisters, Pat (Lyle) Walstad of White Bear Lake, Susan Rudlow of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, Dan
(Carol) Carey of Warba; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services: Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30 at Rowe Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be Monday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Warba. The Rev. Loren
Anderson-Bauer will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Warba American
Legion.
