On Aug 2, 2016, our dear mother and grandmother, Janet Boer, passed peacefully into heaven surrounded by the family she adored.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Harold Boer, and her cherished son, Dave, who died in the Air Florida Flight 82 that went down in the Potomac.
Janet, affectionally known as Dani, was born Jan 22, 1915, to Clyde and Blanche Violet Wilbur in Grand Rapids, where she met Harold, the boy next door. They married in 1936 and raised their family of five children. Her family was her greatest joy. She adored her children: Carol, Tom, Jane, Dave, and Mary. She felt the same about the in laws, sons and daughters: John, Marilyn, Dave, Linda, and Raul.
She was a proud grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 19, and even one great grandchild.
One of her many gifts was that she could make all of her loved ones feel special. She taught us all to be kind and to bring a sense of humor to all situations. We loved her laugh. Her wit was spot on and she had that look, the one where she looked us in the eye and showed only loving kindness and understanding, no judgement – just unconditional love. She cheered us on, cheered us up, and prayed for our strength and happiness. We were blessed to have her in our lives.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, MI, for decades, where she taught Sunday school and was a circle leader for many years. She enjoyed traveling, golf, tennis, painting, decorating, gardening, and reading, but she most enjoyed being with her family.
We will continue to be inspired by her legacy of strength and grace, faith and love as we remember and miss her.
A memorial service is being planned for summer of 2017.
