James R. Butler of Flushing, age 90, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Genesys Hospice, Goodrich. Cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 2pm Fri. Apr 26, 2013, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St, Flushing Fr. Paul Schwermer will officiate. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
James was born in Flint, MI on April 14, 1923, the son of Raymond Ward and Dora (McGinty) Butler. He married Dawne M. Ward on April 26, 1943 in Flint. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2010. James was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy, stationed on Guam. He was a great golfer. James had a rowdy sense of humor and loved to tell a joke. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and adored his family.
James is survived by his children, James W. Butler of Davison, Daniel M. Butler and Janette M. Butler, both of Flushing; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special nephew, Doug Butler of Grand Blanc; other nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Evonne Gossage of Lapeer. He was also preceded in death by a brother. Douglas Butler and Sister, Dorothy Sills.
