James H. Tanner – 1927-2018, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Mon, Oct 1, at the age of 91. A memorial service will be held Sat, Oct 6, at 1 pm at Sharp Funeral Homes temporary location at Hill Creek Church, 5363 Hill Rd., Mundy Twp, with Pastor David Hensler of St Paul Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday between 12 noon and 1 pm. Jim was born in Owosso in 1927. At Owosso High School, Jim participated in football and track. While still in high school, he worked as a crewman on several Lake Michigan car ferries between Ludington and three Wisconsin cities. After the end of WWII, he served in the Army, working in hospitals in Berlin. Jim graduated from Tri-State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and worked first for General Motors, then as a mechanical design engineer, designing conveyor and parts handling systems for such firms as Mechanical Design & Engineering in Flint and Excel Corporation in Fenton. In 1950, Jim married Joan (Dreuth) Tanner, also of Owosso, and they had four children. His interests included painting, especially landscape and nature scenes; carpentry projects; camping, fishing and the outdoors; birdwatching and working in his garden. James leaves behind his daughter Susan and sons Jim and Steve, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Joan and his daughter Kathy.
