James H. Cutris, 73, of Fife Lake, passed away, after a long battle with cancer, on Thu, Nov 17, at his home. Born in Berkley, MI on Oct 22, 1938, Mr. Curtis was the son of the late Marvin and Mary (Lamb) Curtis. He graduated from Berkley High School and enlisted in the US Marine Corps.
In 1961, Jim married his best friend and sweetheart, Sandra Howard.
Him started his career in law enforcement in Berkley, joining the Oakland County Sheriff's Department in 1964 and retired as a Captain Chief of Staff in 1991.
He was a graduate of Madonna University and the FBI National Academy, of which he was a lifetime member.
Jim and Sandy raised their daughters on a farm near Holly, moving their retirement home on the Manistee River in 1993. Having a passion for golf, Jim was a member of the Emerald Vale Golf Course in Manton, American Legion Fife Lake Post 219, and the Walton Junction Sportsman's Club.
Besides his wife, Sandy; Jim is survived by his daughters, Wendy Liebert and Kelly Freedman; granddaughter, Taylor Liebert; grandsons, Nathan and Benjamin Freedman; and his sister, Gladys Lawson.
Jims family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kosinski and his staff for 17 years of multiple myeloma treatment. Cremation has taken place and his family will celebrate his life privately. Funeral arrangements by Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
