James Edward Ryckman, 54, of West Ashley, died suddenly Saturday morning, Jan 3, 1998, after playing basketball with his favorite "Old Timers" Basketball League team.
Mr. Ryckman was born Sep 3, 1943, in Traverse City, the son of Willard A. Ryckman Sr. of Big Twin Lake, and the late Maxine Rugg Ryckman. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from Central Michigan University where he played football. he was a former teacher and basketball coach in Kalkaska. He was a state certified clinical counselor for the Charleston County DAODAS, and was active at the St. Andrews Recreation Center.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Patricia Lee Williams Ryckman; brothers Willard A. Jr of Clearwater, FL, Ronald W of Meade, KS, and Douglas L of Houghton Lake; sister Mary Sue Wendelin of Charleston; and stepchildren Lia Carin Tidwell of Charleston and James M White of Kingsport, TN.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his first wife and two children.

A memorial service was held Jan 6, at J. henry Stuhr's Mt. Pleasant Chapel. Internment followed at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
