In a letter to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Setter which was received Monday, Lance Cpl. James Setter of the US Marine Corps wrote “In 81 more days I’ll be out.”
Tuesday a major and a sergeant of the Marine Corps stopped at the Setter home, 3701 Burnsline Rd. and told Mr. and Mrs. Setter their son had been killed in action in South Vietnam Mon.
The young Marine had been in the service since January 1966. He was a member of the 7th Marines, Co. B. June last year Jim went to South Vietnam.
In earlier letters to his parents, Jim told them he had been seeing a lot more action lately.
His remains will come back to Brown City for burial.
In addition to his parents, Jim is survived by his sister, Mrs. Carl Foster of Brown City and by his brother Lonnie at home.
He is also survived by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lon Setter of Brown City and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Stacy of Lapeer.
Jim Setter was the first Brown City area man to lose his life in the Vietnam war.
