Jack Junior Doherty went to be with his Lord on Sun, Nov 21, 2004, at the Kalkaska Memorial Medical Care Center. He was 77 years old.
Jack was born in Pioneer Township, Missaukee County, on Jul 13, 1927, the son of John J and Alice M (Helsel) Doherty. He was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, and after graduation from Sault High School in 1946, he enlisted in the US Army Airborne, serving as a paratrooper while stationed in Japan.
Jack attended the University of Illinois and Colorado University. He worked as a police officer in Mt Clemens, and for Petitpren Distributors before coming to Kalkaska in 1964, where he owned and operated Jacks Sport Shop for more than 20 years.
On Aug 11, 1953, he married Dorothy E. Kuechenmeister who survives him along with two sons, Steven (Deborah) Doherty of Mancelona and Daniel (Carole) Doherty of Kalkaska; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a loving cousin June (Tom) Prentice of Howell; a brother, the Rev. R. Paul (Joan) Doherty of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, Kalkaska Lions Club and a life member of the Kalkaska VFW Post No 8684. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted and beloved husband, a wonderful dad and grandfather, and a brother to be proud of.
Funeral services were planned for Wed, Nov 24, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Kalkaska at 11 am with the Rev. Ted Turanski officiating.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
